The Brenham Cub soccer team put in a quality effort at College Station on Tuesday, but fell short in a 3-1 district match.
Brenham (3-6, 0-1 district) took its third consecutive loss and its ninth consecutive loss in the head-to-head series with the Cougars.
However, Cub coach Craig Boggan told The Banner-Press in a statement that his team “played our best game of the year.” Brenham entered the second half tied at 1-1 after getting a goal fro Angel Valadez, which was assisted by Josue Andrade.
College Station earned a 2-1 lead in the first five minutes of the second half. The Cougars had also scored in the opening five minutes of the first half.
Brenham tried to score a potential equalizing goal late in the match and pressed forward up the pitch. However, College Station got past Brenham’s attacking setup and scored with two minutes left.
The Cubs will resume district play at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27, against Montgomery at Cub Stadium.
