We are one month away from the start of 2026 Spring Training games. The Rangers continue to make pre-Spring Training additions, as Texas will bring back one of their best relievers from 2023 on a Minor League deal. Plus, the Nationals claimed ex-Twins infielder Mickey Gasper.

Rangers sign Sborz

The Texas Rangers brought back reliever Josh Sborz on a Minor League deal. It also came with a non-roster invite for Spring Training.

Sborz was an effective reliever in 2023 and 2024 for the Rangers, despite giving up home runs here and there. The 32-year-old right-hander struck out 66 over 52.1 regular-season IP during the Rangers’ World Series-winning campaign in 2023, followed by a .75 ERA and 13 strikeouts over 12 postseason innings.

He made 12 Minor League outings this past year but did not pitch at the MLB level at all. Sborz began the year on the IL, recovering from shoulder surgery, and was never activated.

Additionally, the Rangers designated Dom Hamel for assignment, which cleared a spot for the recently-signed reliever Jakob Junis.

Nationals shuffle 40-man roster

Washington claimed infielder Mickey Gasper off waivers from the Minnesota Twins. The Nationals designated pitcher Andry Lara for assignment as a corresponding move.

Gasper spent 2025 as a bench utilityman for the Twins, bouncing between the Majors and Triple-A. The 30-year-old was a late bloomer in the Red Sox’s farm system in 2024, as he posted a .328/.429/.531 slash line, along with 39 extra-base hits.

While Gasper has a keen eye and posted a sub-21% Chase%, he didn’t make enough well-hit contact, often popping up too much. His 13.0% PU% was well above league norms.

Gasper also has experience playing all over the infield, as he has professional experience at first, second, third, left field, and as a catcher.

Other moves

The Mariners re-signed Bryce Miller, meaning that Seattle is now done dealing with all of their arbitration-eligible players. Per MLB.com, Miller will receive $2.4375 in 2026, and he also received a $6.075MM club option for 2027.

Miami designated pitcher Osvaldo Bido for assignment. That move cleared a 40-man roster spot for newly-acquired pitcher Bradley Blalock.

The Dodgers sent infielder Ryan Fitzgerald outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
