Paul Skenes is dedicated to his craft.

Even if that means the Pittsburgh Pirates‘ superstar pitcher has to change his vacation plans with his girlfriend, the social media sensation Livvy Dunne.

Skenes spoke with Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about what a vacation with him looks like.

“I think Liv probably gets tired of traveling with me,” Skenes said. “We might spend four days somewhere, but it’s really two because half of each day — the morning — is for me to train. We don’t get mornings. She can do whatever she needs to do in the morning. But we do not get mornings.”

That’s probably relatively standard for professional athletes in the offseason, but it’s still an amusing way for Skenes to frame it.

The Pirates surely are glad Skenes isn’t complacent and continues to put his work in.

He just won the NL Cy Young Award in his second season in the majors, and he’s widely regarded as one of the two-best pitchers on the planet, along with Tigers lefty Tarik Skubal.

Skenes and Skubal will both be ramping up soon to pitch for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic in March, which should be an awesome tandem to watch.

Then it’ll be on to a new season with the Pirates, who are building up their roster in an effort to be more competitive around the superstar pitcher.

Dunne will surely be there supporting Skenes no matter where he pitches, as she always is. She knows, more than maybe anyone else, just how hard he works each and every day to be this good.
