The momentum the San Diego Padres built with their 2-1 win to snap a six-game losing streak Friday seemed to disappear before the first pitch against the Atlanta Braves in their 7-1 loss, Saturday.

The projected starter for the Padres was Michael King and he was scratched from his start with shoulder tightness less than an hour before game time. San Diego was forced into a bullpen game, which allowed Sean Reynolds to make his first MLB start. Reynolds allowed three runs in 2 2/3 innings on six hits.

The Padres had opportunities against Braves starter Grant Holmes, but could not take advantage of runners in scoring position opportunities. Manny Machado did come through with an RBI-single with Brandon Lockridge on second base in the top of the third inning. The run scoring single tied the game, 1-1. San Diego finished 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position.

Atlanta immediately responded in the bottom of the third with two runs. The first run came on an opposite field home run to left field by Matt Olson to give the Braves a 2-1 lead.

Atlanta added another run in the inning after an Austin Riley double chased Reynolds from the game. Wandy Peralta came in to pitch and allowed a single to Alex Verdugo to put runners at first and third. Ozzie Albies then reached on a slow ground ball to third base that was fielded by Machado, who made a nice play, but was able to beat the throw to first. Riley came in to score from third on the play to give the Braves a 3-1 lead.

Atlanta added on in the bottom of the sixth inning. Alek Jacob faced Ronald Acuña Jr. with one on and one out. He hit a two-run home run to left-center field to put the Braves ahead, 5-1.

Jacob returned to the mound in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, he hit Riley with a pitch and allowed back-to-back singles to Verdugo and Albies. Jacob was taken out of the game and was replaced by Yuki Matsui, who allowed a single to Michael Harris II to score Riley and Verdugo to give the Braves a 7-1 lead.

The Padres will complete their series with the Braves, Sunday at 1:10 p.m.
