The last thing the Texas Rangers wanted was to cancel the team’s annual Fan Fest event, which was scheduled for Saturday at Globe Life Field.

For years, Rangers fans from across the metroplex and beyond have gathered at the ballpark every January to celebrate the upcoming season, meet their favorite players, have the opportunity to be on a big league field, and so much more.

However, the 2026 edition of that trend will not be taking place.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Rangers announced that they have canceled Fan Fest and this weekend’s Winter Warmup events due to anticipated bad weather across the DFW Metroplex.

The Rangers released the following statement on the matter.

“Due to the weather forecast for frozen precipitation in North Texas this weekend, the Rangers have made the difficult decision to cancel Saturday’s Fan Fest event at Globe Life Field in the interest of safety for players, fans, and employees. All fans who purchased tickets for Fan Fest will be automatically refunded in full back to the method of payment they used to purchase tickets”.

“It’s disappointing to miss these opportunities for our fans and players to connect this offseason,” said Rangers Chief Business Officer Jim Cochrane. “After consulting with local weather experts, it was clear that this was the right decision. We will continue to seek opportunities to deliver for our fans, and we look forward to the start of the 2026 season.”

Rangers personnel reportedly met on Tuesday morning and consulted with local weather officially ultamamtly deciding that the best move would be to cancel the event.

In addition to the safety of fans driving out to Globe Life Field this weekend, several players who make their offseason homes out of state would have had difficulties getting flights into DFW, therefore compromising their availability.

As for the weather, more than 30 states across the nation are expected to get some sort of wintry mix with highs currently projected at under 30 degrees for much of the metropolex.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has activated a state of emergency and is encouraging all Texans to be weather-aware, check DriveTexas.org before traveling, and heed the guidance of state and local officials.

As for the Rangers, they will be escaping the cold soon and heading to Suprise Ariziona where pitchers and catchers will report on February 10th, and their first full squad workout will take place on February 15th, just over three weeks from today.
