NEW YORK — After last night’s 13-inning triathlon, the Los Angeles Dodgers desperately needed pitching reinforcements. To that end, they recalled right-handed pitcher Bobby Miller and optioned right-handed pitcher Matt Sauer. The Dodgers were able to squeeze some innings out of Ben Casparius and Sauer in Friday night’s game at Citi Field, but Tanner Scott’s blown save in the ninth forced Los Angeles to use a total of eight pitchers and exhaust their bullpen by the end of the game.

Miller, 26, is being recalled to Los Angeles for the second time this season. He made one start for the Dodgers this season, allowing six runs in three innings while striking out seven. He has made eight appearances for Triple-A Oklahoma City, going 1-1 with a 4.63 ERA in 35 innings. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has confirmed that Miller’s role in his call-up will be a length option out of the pen.

Sauer, 26, pitched three innings in last night’s game, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits. In seven games with the Dodgers, he is 1-0 with a 3.05 ERA. He recorded his first career win on April 29 with five innings of relief against the Marlins and tallied his first career save in his next outing, firing four innings to seal the victory for the Dodgers on May 7 at Miami.
