The options for the Pittsburgh Pirates to consider in their search for another bat are dwindling.

Free agent third baseman Yoán Moncada re-signed with the Los Angeles Angels on a one-year, $4 million deal, as first reported by Francys Romer on Twitter/X. Romero also noted that the Pirates were one of four teams most closely monitoring Moncada’s market.

Moncada slashed .234/.336/.448 with 13 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs and 35 RBI in 84 games with the Angels last season. He missed most of April and June with a thumb sprain and knee inflammation, respectively.

The Pirates are still on the hunt for another bat even after adding Brandon Lowe, Ryan O’Hearn, Jake Mangum and Jhostynxon García this offseason.

Third base is an obvious area for the Pirates to try and upgrade. Eugenio Suárez is the top free agent option remaining. There are several possible trade candidates the Pirates could look into including the Philadelphia Phillies’ Alec Bohm, Lenyn Sosa of the Chicago White Sox and several options from the New York Mets.
