Jorge Masvidal Gives Path for Alexander Volkanovski to Become Featherweight GOATFormer UFC star Jorge Masvidal said Alexander Volkanovski’s second featherweight title reign may be short-lived, underscoring questions around the division’s next challengers.
In remarks on the Deathrow MMA podcast, Masvidal argued that Volkanovski will not beat Movsar Evloev or Lerone Murphy if he gets past Diego Lopes at UFC 325 on Jan. 31 at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. He contrasted Volkanovski’s wrestling display against Islam Makhachev with Evloev’s pace and highlighted Murphy’s size and technical striking.
Volkanovski first won the featherweight belt in 2019, defended five times, and later lost to Ilia Topuria. After Topuria moved to lightweight, he reclaimed the vacant title by defeating Lopes last year. Masvidal said wins over Evloev and Murphy would place Volkanovski among the all-time greats.
