Jazz Chisholm Jr became the third player in Yankees history to hit 30 homers and steal 30 bases in a single season.

The New York Yankees were able to accomplish their top goal heading into the MLB offseason, which was to re-sign star outfielder Cody Bellinger.

Bellinger finally agreed to a lucrative five-year, $162.5 million contract with the Yankees that includes a no-trade clause and opt-out clauses after the second and third season.

Now, the question becomes, what else does New York have up its sleeve this offseason?

One potential rumor that has grown some legs has had to do with the Yankees potentially trading Jazz Chisholm away. While those rumors have not been very loud of late, they were out there earlier this offseason.

With that being said, the potential reason New York could trade Chisholm has been revealed.

Why the New York Yankees Could Decide to Trade Jazz Chisholm

Chisholm has been very productive for the Yankees since being acquired from the Miami Marlins. He was a big part of the puzzle during the 2025 season in his first full year in New York.

During the 2025 season, the 27-year-old infielder played in 130 games. He hit 31 home runs to go along wtih 80 RBI, 31 stolen bases, and a slash line of .242/.332/.481. Trading away that kind of production would be a difficult decision to make.

While it would be a tough choice, the reason would make some level of sense.

Yankees insider Bryan Hoch suggested that New York could make the move due to Chisholm’s personality.

“Is he a part of the Yankees for four to five years? Do they see his personality in the room for four to five years?” Hoch said.

After the 2026 season, the Yankees will have to make a decision regarding Chisholm’s future anyway. He’s set to become a free agent next offseason. That could lead to New York deciding to part ways with him now to recoup some kind of value.

There Is No Need to Rush a Chisholm Trade

At the end of the day, the Yankees are not on a time crunch when it comes to potentially trading Chisholm. They could simply see what he can do in the first half of the season and if they don’t view him as a long-term fit, trade him at the deadline.

Chisholm is a player who teams will have interest either this offseason or ahead of the deadline. Should New York decide that he’s not a piece it wants to build around, the front office will be able to get offers for him at the deadline.

Throughout his entire 579-game MLB career, Chisholm has hit 108 home runs, driven in 308 RBI, recorded 130 stolen bases, and produced a .248/.316/.454 slash line. He is a highly productive player who brings a lot of entertainment to the field.

It will be interesting to see what else the Yankees decide to do this offseason. They were one of the teams involved in the Freddy Peralta trade discussions before the crosstown rival New York Mets acquired him on Wednesday night.

Expect to hear more rumblings about Chisholm’s future as the season draws closer. He could very well start the season in New York, but a trade is far from being off the table.
