The Texas Rangers have acquired an All-Star left-hander, MacKenzie Gore of the Washington Nationals, on Thursday.
In the deal, the Nationals obtained five of the top 20 prospects in the Texas organisation in exchange with Gore, including infielder Gavin Fien, the No 12 overall pick of the 2025 MLB Draft.
The deal also includes right-hander Alejandro Rosario, first baseman/outfielder Abimelec Ortiz, shortstop Devin Fitz-Gerald, and outfielder Yeremy Cabrera.
The move of Gore is the first significant roster move of the new Nationals president of baseball operations, Paul Toboni.
Gore, who will be 27 in one month, had a record of 5-15 with a 4.17 ERA and 185 strikeouts in 159 2/3 innings last season.
In 2025, he was chosen as the starting pitcher on Opening Day of the Nationals, where he struck out 13 batters and gave only one hit in six scoreless innings with a no-decision against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Gore has a career appearance record of 105 (102 starts) with a 4.19 ERA in 26-41 career appearances with the Nationals and San Diego Padres.
In June 2017, the Padres drafted him with the third overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft and subsequently traded him as part of the blockbuster Juan Soto deal on Aug. 2, 2022.
Gore will earn 5.6 million dollars in this season and is controlled by the club in 2027. MLB Pipeline considered Fien, 18, as the No. 2 prospect in the Texas organization.
Last season, he played 10 games in Single-A Hickory, hitting 9-41 (.220). MLB Pipeline ranked Rosario No. 6. Fitz-Gerald ranked No. 12, Cabrera ranked No. 16, and Ortiz ranked No. 18.
