So Minnesota: Children’s book on Twins legend Tony Oliva highlights his inspirational life story
TwinsFest kicks off on Friday at Target Field.
A new book highlights the inspirational story of a Twins all-time great.
Tony Oliva’s son, Ricardo Oliva, wrote the children’s book “No Hay Problema, The Amazing Story of Tony Oliva.”
“None of the obstacles he faced stopped him from pursuing the dreams he had,” Ricardo Oliva said.
Ricardo Oliva wrote the book to honor his father.
“He said, ‘Can you imagine knowing where I grew up in the middle of nowhere in Cuba that I would be doing any of this?’” Ricardo Oliva said. “He said it’s all unbelievable. My life is a miracle.”
Growing up in poverty in Cuba, Tony Oliva came to Minnesota to play baseball, but he faced language barriers and racial discrimination.
“For me, I can’t believe it, everything that happened to me all those years,” Tony Oliva said.
Tony’s resilience and positivity never wavered, and his spirit remained unbreakable.
“The morale of the story is through determination, grit, and hard work, you can achieve whatever you set your mind to,” Ricardo Oliva said.
