The Phillies on Friday announced 27 nonroster invitees to spring training, including Garnet Valley grad Andrew Bechtold.
The group includes a number of the team’s top prospects and a handful of intriguing MLB journeymen.
Left-handed pitchers: Genesis Cabrera, Tucker Davidson, Tim Mayza, Andrew Walling
Right-handed pitchers: Andrew Bechtold, Jonathan Hernandez, Michael Mercado, Trevor Richards, Bryse Wilson
Catchers: Kehden Hettiger, Mark Kolozsvary, Paul McIntosh, Rene Pinto, Caleb Ricketts
Infielders: Keaton Anthony, Christian Cairo, Carson DeMartini, Aroon Escobar, Aidan Miller, Liover Pequero, Felix Reyes, Bryan Rincon, Jose Rodriguez
Outfielders: Dylan Campbell, Justin Crawford, Bryan De La Cruz, Dante Nori
Among the group are the Phillies’ second (Miller), third (Crawford), fifth (Escobar) and sixth (Nori) prospects, according to MLB.com. MLB has DeMartini ranked 13th, Anthony 15th and Rincon 17th.
Ricketts and Hettiger, both of whom were at Double-A last year, are 22nd and 23rd, respectively.
NRIs are only for players not on the 40-man roster. Pitchers and catchers report to Clearwater on Feb. 11.
The Phillies have said they’re going to give Crawford, the team’s first-round pick in 2022, every chance to win the center fielder’s job. The 22-year-old slashed .334/.411/.452 with 23 doubles, seven homers, 47 RBIs, 88 runs and 46 stolen bases in 57 chances last year at Lehigh Valley. He set the IronPigs record for highest batting average in a season.
Miller is a little further off. The 21-year-old first-round pick in 2023 made it to Triple A last year after slashing .264/.392/.433 in 116 games for Double-A Reading. The third baseman is likely to start this season with the IronPigs.
Nori is the Phillies’ first-round pick in 2024. The 21-year-old slashed .261/.361/.372 last year, rising from Single-A Clearwater to Double-A Reading.
Bechtold is an intriguing prospect, a fifth-round pick of the Twins who reached Triple A as an infielder but converted to pitching in his mid-20s. The 29-year-old had a 4.26 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 38 innings with Double-A Reading in just his second season committed to full-time pitching.
Among the pitchers brought back from last year is Mayza, who made the Phillies’ postseason roster after being picked up off waivers on Aug. 31. The 34-year-old lefty from Upper Perkiomen had a 4.91 ERA in 7.1 innings over eight appearances. He did not pitch in the NLDS loss to the Dodgers.
Mercado struggled mightily with the Phillies the last two years, with an 11.81 ERA in 16 innings over eight appearances. He was 6-1 with a 4.59 ERA in 42 appearances with Lehigh Valley last year.
Walling didn’t reach the bigs last year, but he was one of the pitchers called to postseason prep camp. The 26-year-old posted a 3.97 ERA in 47.2 innings in rising from High A to Triple A. He was an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi State in 2022.
Among the arrivals from outside the organization is Cabrera, a hard-throwing veteran of 312 Major League games. He spent 2025 with the Mets, Cubs, Pirates and Twins. The 29-year-old in 2021 hit Bryce Harper in the face with a 97 mile per hour fastball.
De La Cruz, 29, has played 491 games in the bigs, mostly with the Braves and Marlins, with a .251 average. He’s a career .248 hitter against the Phillies with seven homers and 21 RBIs in 45 games. He’s coming off a strong Dominican Winter League season and is a right-handed platoon candidate.
Wilson, 28, made the White Sox Opening Day roster last year with a 6.65 ERA in 20 games. He holds a 4.82 ERA in 163 career games with Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Milwaukee and Chicago.
Richards has pitched in 295 games in the bigs for seven clubs since 2018, including 5.2 innings for the Royals and Diamondbacks last year. He also pitched for the Cubs Triple A team, with a 5.54 ERA in 52 innings in Triple A.
Hernandez, 29, has pitched 127 games in the big leagues with the Rangers and Mariners with a power sinker. He was limited to 12 innings in Triple-A last year, though he posted a 2.25 ERA.
Davidson, 29, went 10-5 with a 3.65 ERA in 123.1 innings for the Lotte Giants in South Korea. He has pitched 56 big league games with Atlanta, the Angels, Kansas City and Baltimore.
Kolozsvary is an experienced depth option behind the plate. He has played 11 major league games for the Reds in 2022 and Orioles in 2023. He hit .253 with five homers and 17 RBIs in 30 games in Boston’s system last year.
Peguero played 33 games for the Pirates last year and has hit .227 in 96 career games in the bigs.
Cairo, the son of former Phillies infielder Miguel Cairo, is a native of Clearwater who batted .237 with Cleveland’s Triple A team last year.
The invitees include some under-the-radar possibilities within the organization. Anthony, an undrafted free agent out of the University of Iowa, slashed .323/.378/.484 between Double A and Triple A last year.
Campbell, 23, is a fourth-round pick of the Dodgers in 2023 who hit just .215 in High A and Double A but is seen as a plus outfield defender.
Reyes, a 24-year-old signed as an amateur free agent in 2020, won the Eastern League batting title in 2025 with a .335 average, the highest in Double A.
McIntosh rose to Triple A last year with a .259/.356/.435 slash line across three levels. The 28-year-old was acquired in the Jesus Luzardo trade.
Rincon, 21, is a switch-hitting infielder who’s grown considerably since being a 14th-round pick in 2022.
