The Red Sox have invited minor league catcher Nate Baez, their most recent trade addition, to major league spring training camp.

Baez is one of 14 non-roster invitees who Boston announced Friday as additions to their major league spring training roster. In all, the team has extended invitations to 21 minor leaguers.

The Sox acquired Baez from the Twins for infielder Tristan Gray on Wednesday, opening a 40-man roster spot for free agent signee Ranger Suárez.

Baez, a 24-year-old right-handed hitter, batted .278 with a .371 on-base percentage, .423 slugging percentage and .794 OPS in 96 games between High-A Cedar Rapids and Double-A Wichita in 2025.

Mikey Romero, Boston’s 2022 first-round pick, also was invited. This marks his first big league spring training camp.

The 22-year-old Romero batted .245 with a .300 on-base percentage, .452 slugging percentage and .751 OPS in 111 games between Double-A Portland and Worcester last year. He showed power against Triple-A pitchers during September, belting five home runs and seven doubles while slugging .547 in 18 games. He finished the season with the third most home runs (17) in the Red Sox minor league system.

The other 12 invitees announced Friday: Max Ferguson (IF/OF), Tyler McDonough (IF/OF), Allan Castro (OF), Braiden Ward (OF), Ronald Rosario (C), Nathan Hickey (1B/C), Tayron Guerrero (RHP), Seth Martinez (RHP), Wyatt Olds (RHP), Noah Song (RHP), Jacob Webb (RHP) and Jeremy Wu-Yelland (LHP).

Wu-Yelland is one interesting name to watch. The 26-year-old, who Boston selected in the fourth round in 2020, posted a 3.15 ERA, .201 batting average against and 37.6% strikeout percentage in 25 outings (45 â…” innings) for High-A Greenville and Portland last year. Thirty-four of those innings came with Portland.

Boston acquired Ward, a speedy left-handed hitting outfielder, from the Rockies for Brennan Bernardino on Nov. 18. He was successful on 57-of-64 stolen base attempts in 97 games for Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque in 2025 while batting .290 with a .395 on-base percentage.
