ALEXANDRIA, La. (KALB) – LSUA baseball rallied from a three-run deficit to defeat Wiley 4-3 in a walk-off victory on opening night Friday.
The Generals won the first game of the doubleheader 9-0 before falling behind early in the nightcap.
Wiley took a 3-0 lead in the second inning when Cameron McCoy laid down a bunt and reached first on a throwing error by Trevor Dooley. Xavier Sosa came around to score on the play.
LSUA got on the board in the third inning when Lane Patin hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Colin Ardoin to slide home for the Generals’ first run.
Momentum seemed to shift towards the Generals following a 4-6-3 double play on Sosa later in the game.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, Joshua Tinnerello delivered a clutch hit to left field, bringing in Dooley to cut Wiley’s lead to 3-2.
The Wildcats changed pitchers, but could not stop a sacrifice bunt by Patin that brought in Blake Moss, tying the game at 3-3.
With the winning run on second base, Cade LaBruyere singled up the middle to bring Tinnerello around to score the game-winning run.
The victory marked the second consecutive year LSUA has walked off on opening night.
