CHICAGO: Right-handed reliever Seranthony Domínguez has agreed to a two-year, $20 million contract with the Chicago White Sox, according to international media reports on Friday.

It is anticipated that the 31-year-old will become the closer of the White Sox, becoming part of a team that has been highly active this winter.

In 2023, Domínguez made a debut in the major league with the Philadelphia Phillies. Throughout his career, he has an overall record of 23-23 with 40 saves, a 3.50 ERA, and 360 strikeouts in 322 appearances or 306 innings.

He had a 4-4 record with two saves and a 3.16 ERA in 67 relief appearances between the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays last season, with the latter having taken him in right before the trade deadline.

In the case of the White Sox, the obvious candidate to take on the role of a closer is Dominguez, as reports show.

He will be part of other newcomers, among them Anthony Kay, Sean Newcomb, Luisangel Acuña, and Munetaka Murakami, as well as the experienced bullpen (Grant Taylor and Jordan Leasure).

Chicago has been a busy city in recent weeks, particularly agreeing to a two-year contract with Japanese slugger Munetaka Murakami at a cost of three million dollars last month.

The trade on Tuesday that saw Luis Robert Jr. transferred to the New York Mets also brought White Sox left-handers Kay and Newcomb, and infielder Acuna on board.
