The participants for this year’s Super Bowl are set, which means we are subjected to two weeks of overanalysis that will compare the two teams down to whether or not hair color will play a factor. It’s brutal to watch if your favorite team is not a part of it, so let’s take it to a baseball angle.
We are lucky in that the playoffs for MLB are all series of varying length. The wild card round is best of three, the divisional round is a best of five and the championship and World Series are seven game battles. However, it made me think: would any of the playoff rounds be better if they were one game instead of multiple? The wild card rounds used to be one and done, but the expansion of media rights, the number of teams in the playoffs and a new CBA meant they lengthened to three games. It took a tiny bit of drama away from that round, but I guess we gotta make those players happy.
