MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – On this day, January 26, 1934, “Mr. Baseball” himself Bob Uecker was born in Milwaukee.
Uecker played baseball throughout his youth, and after graduating from Milwaukee Technical High School, he signed with the Milwaukee Braves as a catcher.
He went on to play with three other teams in his professional career, including the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, and Atlanta Braves before he retired in 1967.
Mr. Baseball was hired by the Milwaukee Brewers as a color commentator in 1971. One day, he was left to do play-by-play in the booth, and the rest is history.
His voice was known as the Soundtrack of Summer for many baseball fans until he called his last game in 2024.
Uecker was also an actor, starring in the films “Major League” and “Major League II” and the TV show “Mr. Belvedere.”
Bob Uecker, also called “Ueck” by Brewers fans, died at the age of 90 on Jan. 16, 2025, but he will live in the hearts of baseball fans forever.
A previous version of this story had Mr. Uecker’s birth year as 1935. The story now accurately reflects his birth year as 1934.
