The New York Yankees may be close to done making moves this offseason, at least in terms of free agency, but there’s also still time to make meaningful trades. Perhaps the Yankees’ best move this offseason, aside from signing Cody Bellinger, was trading for Ryan Weathers.
The fact that the Yankees have added Weathers and re-signed Paul Blackburn can not get lost here, but with multiple key starters set to open the year on the injured list, New York will be relying on young arms like Will Warren and Cam Schlittler for the first couple of months of the season. A recent trade pitch has the Yankees as the predicted landing spot for Kansas City Royals‘ starer Kris Bubic, who has been the subject of trade rumors this offseason.

Should the Yankees Consider Trading For Kris Bubic?
Should the Yankees consider trading for Kris Bubic?
In a recent FanSided piece by Zachary Rotman, the Yankees are the predicted landing spot for Kris Bubic:

“The New York Yankees re-signed Cody Bellinger, completing their outfield and leaving both Jasson Dominguez and Spencer Jones without a clear path for playing time. New York would almost certainly love to keep at least one of those outfielders, if not both, but one should be expendable for a starting pitcher”
The reasoning behind moving one of Dominguez or Spencer Jones to the Royals is because of Kansas City’s need for a bat, and that need makes Bubic an expendable piece.
Bubic didn’t pitch down the stretch of the 2025 season, but he was still named to his first All-Star appearance. In 20 starts and 116.1 innings, Kris Bubic posted a 2.55 ERA and 116 strikeouts. It was Bubic’s first full season as a starter since 2022.

Will the Yankees Move Jasson Dominguez or Spencer Jones?
There have been speculative rumors that one of these players might be moved this offseason, but nothing has really materialized.
As Rotman indicated, the signing of Bellinger may complete the Yankees’ outfield, and where does that leave Dominguez? Manager Aaron Boone has said Dominguez will get a lot of playing time in the outfield this upcoming season, but who knows if that will actually end up happening.
And Spencer Jones might need more time in the minors, but that could be an essential piece of the Yankees’ future.
If the Yankees do want to make a trade, they need to act fast, as the market is dwindling and the start of the season is approaching.
