KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Visitors to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum this February won’t need to spend a dime for admission.
The Kansas City Royals Foundation will provide free admission to the museum throughout the month for the fifth consecutive year in celebration of Black History Month.
The partnership has drawn more than 50,000 visitors to the museum during February since it began, a release stated, enabling the Royals Foundation to contribute more than $435,000 in support of the museum’s mission.
“The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is a tremendous asset that we are fortunate to have in our city and The Royals Foundation is proud to once again support Free February—removing the barrier of admission so more people can experience and learn from the powerful stories within its walls,” said Amy Gale, executive director of The Kansas City Royals Foundation.
Gale said the museum highlights the evolution of baseball and tells a vital chapter of the nation’s history.
NLBM president Bob Kendrick said the initiative makes the museum more accessible for students, particularly those from underserved communities.
“This impactful community outreach initiative makes the museum more accessible for students, particularly those from underserved communities, while also encouraging more people to visit where they have an opportunity to learn about and be inspired by courageous athletes who overcame tremendous social adversity to play the game they loved,” Kendrick said.
The museum will operate on an extended schedule to accommodate anticipated demand. The NLBM will be open on Mondays in February from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the exception of Presidents’ Day, Feb. 16, when doors are open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The museum will open at 9 a.m. every Wednesday throughout the month. Regular operating hours remain Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
Groups of 50 or more may arrange self-guided tours by contacting the NLBM at 816-221-1920 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
