The Milwaukee Brewers had the best record in the National League in 2025.
Can they build on that this season? It’s always a little tougher for a smaller-market club.
It may have gotten even trickier earlier this month when they traded ace Freddy Peralta to the New York Mets. Milwaukee received quality prospects in return, but it might setback their current club just a bit.
The trade of Peralta also thinned out the pitching rotation.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand wrote Thursday that he thinks the Brewers will look to address that fact with what remains in free agency.
“With very little experience behind Brandon Woodruff in that rotation, Milwaukee could look to add a veteran arm before the season,” Feinsand writes. “A reunion with Jose Quintana is always a possibility, though there are a number of free agents who could fit the bill.”
Quintana just had a very effective season for the Brewers in 2025. He made 24 starts and had an 11-7 record with a 3.96 ERA.Â

The lefty Quintana has actually put together four consecutive seasons with an ERA sub-4.00. He turned 37 earlier in January, but he hasn’t yet shown a major decline.
Another veteran free agent pitcher who remains on the market is Chris Bassitt from the Toronto Blue Jays, who was key as Toronto made it all the way to World Series Game 7.
It definitely makes sense that Milwaukee would want another arm. You can’t have enough pitching depth, and the Brewers are a little light there at the moment.
