Maikel Garcia to join captain Salvador Perez on Venezuela’s World Baseball Classic team

  • January 30, 2026

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Another Kansas City Royal is planning to lace up his cleats during the World Baseball Classic.

On Thursday, Kansas City Royals third baseman Maikel Garcia was confirmed as the sixth player with the franchise who will participate in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.

Garcia, a La Sabana, Venezuela, native, will join a team captained by Royals catcher Salvador Perez for the national team event this March.

This offseason, Garcia signed a five-year extension with the Royals following his first All-Star season in 2025.

Garcia’s breakout 2025 campaign included career highs in hits (170), home runs (16), RBI (74), batting average (.286), and walks (62), just to name a few statistical categories.

Perez has already been announced as Venezuela’s captain.

Along with Garcia and Perez for Venezuela, Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. (United States), first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino (Italy), right fielder Jac Caglianone (Italy) and pitcher Seth Lugo (Puerto Rico) will also participate in the event.

It’ll be the first time that Garcia and Caglianone participate in the World Baseball Classic.

Garcia and Perez will start the 2026 event in Pool D play, March 6-11, at LoanDepot Park in Miami.
