MILWAUKEE — Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio’s star continues to rise. The 21-year-old will join up with Venezuela for the World Baseball Classic later this spring.

Chourio is coming off a strong second season in the majors where he hit .270 with 21 home runs across 131 games. He has hit 20 or more home runs and stolen 20 or more bases in each of his first two MLB seasons.

Venezuela will be captained by Royals catcher Salvador Perez, and big names including Ronald Acuña Jr. and Maikel Garcia will be apart of the squad as well. Notably absent will be Astros star Jose Altuve, who could not get contract insurance for the tournament.

Chourio is not the only Brewer announced for this year’s tournament. Pitcher Jose Quintana will captain Colombia and Brice Turang will be part of Team USA.

The World Baseball Classic starts March 4 when Taiwan takes on Australia. Venezuela and the USA’s first games are on March 6.

This year’s classic features a round-robin pool round followed by a single-elimination bracket. The top two teams from each pool advance to the bracket.

Team USA is in Pool B with Brazil, Great Britain, Italy and Mexico. That pool’s games will be played at Daikin Park (formerly Minute Maid Park) in Houston. Chourio and Venezuela are in Pool D with the Dominican Republic, Israel, the Netherlands and Nicaragua. That pool’s games will be played at LoanDepot Park in Miami.
