The San Diego Padres are taking a chance on Riley Pint.

That name may sound familiar to followers of the NL West Division. Pint was once the No. 4 overall pick by the Colorado Rockies.

He never quite panned out, though, and Pint was a free agent this offseason hoping to just find another opportunity for himself.

He found it with the Padres, signing with San Diego after the Driveline showcase day in front of scouts.

Pint could always throw hard, dating to that 2016 MLB Draft when he was chosen out of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Overland Park, Kansas.

That has only gotten him five games in the major leagues, though, allowing nine runs in just 3.2 innings pitched.

Pint has a 5.30 ERA in his minor league career, too. It never really worked for him at any point.

He didn’t pitch at all in 2025, and this is his chance to use a change of scenery to see what he can become.

There are a lot of long-ago believers in Pint who would love to see him succeed. The Padres are hoping that the 28-year old, 6-foot-5 righty still has some heat left in the tank.
