While the weather hasn’t indicated that the baseball and softball seasons are around the corner, with the flipping of the calendar, that is the case at the collegiate level.
And with several former Clay City and Northview returning to the diamond throughout the Midwest, the Times are poised to keep those back at home updated on their performances on a weekly basis.
Below are the student-athletes set to play college baseball and softball this spring:
Lauren Sackett (ISU softball)
Lauren Sackett, a redshirt senior right-handed pitcher, is in her fifth season at Indiana State University. Last year, as a redshirt junior, Sackett appeared in 25 games, which included 16 starts in the circle, that saw her post a 3-15 record in 107 innings of work. Sackett recorded a 3.60 ERA, a 1.57 WHIP, 89 strikeouts, seven complete games, one shutout and two saves. Indiana State opens the 2026 season Friday at the Stetson Tournament in DeLand, Florida.
Sophie Moshos (Appalachian State softball)
Sophie Moshos, a senior left-handed pitcher, is in her second season at Appalachian State University. Last year, as a junior, Moshos appeared in 36 games, which included 27 starts in the circle, that saw her post a 16-10 record in 163.2 innings of work. Moshos recorded a 3.51 ERA, a 1.33 WHIP, 118 strikeouts, 13 complete games and two shutouts. Appalachian State opens the 2026 season on Friday at the UNCW Tournament in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Lexi Thompson (IWU softball)
Lexi Thompson, a sophomore infielder, is in her second season at Indiana Wesleyan University. Last year, as a freshman, Thompson appeared in seven games, which included one start. Thompson posted a .143/.333/.143 batting line to go along with two walks. Indiana Wesleyan opens the 2026 season on February 13 at the NAIA Leadoff Tournament in Rosemont, Illinois.
Lizzy Sinders (Taylor softball)
Lizzy Sinders, a freshman right-handed pitcher and outfielder, is in her first season at Taylor University. Last year, as a senior at Clay City High School, Sinders appeared in 24 games in the circle that saw her post a 14-5 record in 137 innings of work. Sinders recorded a 1.74 ERA and 197 strikeouts while holding opposing batters to a .169 average against her. At the plate, the left-handed swinging Sinders posted a .469/.532/.646 batting line to go along with 10 doubles, two triples, one home run, 23 runs scored, 15 runs driven in and 10 steals. Taylor opens the 2026 season on February 13 at Johnson University in Knox County, Tennessee.
Abi Shearer (Rose Hulman softball)
Abi Shearer, a freshman infielder, is in her first season at Rose Hulman. Last year, as a senior at Clay City High School, Shearer appeared in 28 games. Shearer posted a .298/.454/.595 batting line to go along with one double, eight home runs, 20 runs scored and 20 runs driven in. Rose Hulman opens the 2026 season on March 2 at the Space Coast Spring Games in Melbourne, Florida.
Dylan Zentko (Murray State baseball)
Dylan Zentko, a senior left-handed pitcher, is in his second season at Murray State University. Last year, as a junior, Zentko appeared in 22 games, all of which were out of the bullpen, that saw him post a 4-1 record in 52 innings pitched. Zentko recorded a 4.15 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP to go along with 54 strikeouts and three saves. Murray State opens the 2026 season with a three-game series against Ohio University on February 13.
Landon Carr (Rockhurst baseball)
Landon Carr, a senior right-handed pitcher, is in his fourth season at Rockhurst University. Last year, as a junior, Carr appeared in 11 games, which included one start, that saw him post an 0-1 record in 9.2 innings pitched. Carr recorded an 8.38 ERA and a 2.17 WHIP to go along with 11 strikeouts. Rockhurst opens the 2026 season with a three-game series at Davenport University on February 13.
Javier Higham (Marian Ancilla baseball)
Javier Higham, a redshirt freshman infielder, is in his second season at Marian Ancilla University. Last year, as a freshman, Higham appeared in one game, going 1-for-2 with a single, before suffering a season-ending injury. Marian Ancilla opens the 2026 season with a four-game series at Coastal Alabama-North on Friday.
Peyton Lear (IU Kokomo baseball)
Peyton Lear, a redshirt freshman infielder, is in his first season at Indiana University Kokomo. Last year, as a freshman at Indiana Wesleyan University, Lear did not appear in any games. IU Kokomo opened the 2026 season last week with a four-game series at Tennessee Wesleyan University.
