Eugenio Suarez has been open to a reunion in Detroit in the past.

Earlier this offseason, the Los Angeles Angels traded third baseman Taylor Ward to the Baltimore Orioles. That left a huge void for the Angels not only in the outfield. It also left a hole in terms of production from their lineup.

Last season, Ward clubbed 36 home runs, which was a career-high with 103 RBIs, which was another career-high. Baltimore upgraded their offense by acquiring Ward and signing New York Mets free agent first baseman Pete Alonso.

Spring training is around the corner, and Los Angeles has yet to fill the power void in their lineup left by Ward. There are still some free agent options available for the Angels to choose from. One of them is a former Seattle Mariners slugger, Eugenio Suárez. He would be an ideal fit for the Angels’ lineup.

Los Angeles Angels Listed as Free Agent Destination For Eugenio Suárez

Given the power that Suárez has and coming off a 49-home run 2025 campaign, it is a little surprising that he’s still available in free agency. Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report listed the Angels as a destination for Suárez for one reason: to fill a void of power production lost when Ward was dealt to Baltimore.

“The Los Angeles Angels have a hole at third base, and need to replace the right-handed power production they lost by trading Taylor Ward. The Boston Red Sox didn’t retain Alex Bregman, and it’s not hard to imagine Suárez thriving at Fenway Park. While Suárez would probably prefer to land in greener hitting pastures than T-Mobile Park, the incumbent Mariners can’t be ruled out. And if Suárez was willing to move off of third base and either DH or play first base, a return to Cincinnati would be a fun outcome,” Kelly wrote.

Sure, returning to the Mariners would be an easy move for both Suárez and Seattle to make. But there is no denying that the fit with the Angels would be good for both the player and the team.

Last season was the second time in his career that Suárez hit 49 home runs in a season. He did it in 2019 with the Cincinnati Reds. He hit 36 home runs for the Arizona Diamondbacks last year before hitting 13 for Seattle after being dealt at the trade deadline.

Los Angeles Angels Signing Eugenio Suárez Would Fill Void

Is Los Angeles going to contend in the loaded American League West this season? It’s going to be tough. The Mariners are primed for another run. The Houston Astros are looking to bounce back from missing the postseason after a September collapse. The Texas Rangers have loaded up their starting rotation after acquiring MacKenzie Gore from the Washington Nationals.

Pitching wins games, but there is no doubt. However, Suárez can be a difference-maker in a lineup, something the Angels need. Given his power and production, it is surprising that he remains a free agent. The closer we get to spring training, the better he will look in the Los Angeles lineup. A short-term deal is a move that can be made where it can benefinical for both teams.
