The Seattle Mariners will have a second statue unveiling at T-Mobile Park this season, as the club announced Sunday at FanFest that it will pay tribute to the record-setting 2001 M’s team with a statue that will be unveiled Sept. 3 and displayed in the Center Field Plaza.

The statue will commemorate the Mariners’ 116-win team and honor the 25th anniversary of the tragic events of Sept. 11.
The statue will feature former Mariners players Mike Cameron and Mark McLemore in what has become an iconic moment in team history when they raised the American flag on Sept. 19 following their clinching of the American League West title, which occurred just two days after games resumed following a weeklong shutdown.
In winning 116 games, the 2001 Mariners tied the 1906 Chicago Cubs for the major league record for wins in the modern era and set an AL record that still stands today.
Managing chairman and partner John Stanton made the announcement to fans Sunday from the top of the dugout.
“We’re honored to commemorate one of the most meaningful moments in both American history and the history of the Mariners,” Stanton in a statement. “Baseball has always brought communities together, and the 2001 team embodied that spirit during a time when our country needed connection, hope and healing.”
The Mariners also will unveil a statue of Hall of Famer Ichiro Suzuki at T-Mobile Park this season.
