A new report indicates that Eugenio Suárez is set to return to the Cincinnati Reds for the 2026 season.According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Suárez and the Reds have agreed to a one-year, $15 million contract.Suárez, a third baseman, most recently spent time with the Arizona Diamondbacks last season, before going on to be traded to the Seattle Mariners in July in time for a major postseason run that would see Seattle finish as American League Championship Series runners-up.His time in the Pacific Northwest would prove to be familiar territory for Suárez: The 34-year-old previously played for the Mariners in between his time on the Reds and Diamondbacks between 2022 and 2023.However, the Venezuelan national’s second stint on the Mariners ultimately proved to be short-lived, with Suárez becoming a free agent as the season came to a close.Suárez finished the 2025 season with the fifth-most home runs in Major League Baseball last year, recording a total of 49 across his time with both the Diamondbacks and Mariners. He also finished with 118 RBIs, the fourth-highest total of any player.Despite this, Suárez also showed some occasional weaknesses in getting on base, and finished the 2025 season as the American League leader for strikeouts, as well as with a relatively typical batting average of .228.Suárez previously spent seven seasons in Cincinnati between 2015 and 2021, the longest stretch of time by far that he has been with any one team.Before this, he made his professional debut in 2014 with the Detroit Tigers after working his way up through the Tigers’ minor league affiliate teams over the years.This comes as Reds Spring Training is set to get underway in two weeks, with position players set to report on Feb. 14.Meanwhile, Reds Opening Day is set for March 26 at Great American Ball Park against the Boston Red Sox.
