The Pittsburgh Pirates made some interesting moves this offseason, showing a clear intent to improve upon another disappointing campaign. Yet they still need to find a replacement for the vacant role at third base. Eugenio Suárez was reportedly on the radar for the Pirates this winter. However, they will have to set their sights elsewhere after he joined the Cincinnati Reds.
According to Andrew Filliponi of 93.7 The Fan, the Pittsburgh Pirates are pivoting with a move to sign Marcell Ozuna after failing in their bid to land Eugenio Suárez. The right-handed slugger is a free agent after six seasons with the Atlanta Braves. Ozuna could potentially provide a massive boost in the middle of the Pittsburgh Pirates’ lineup, but they will still need to find a glove to play third base.
“The Pirates are now trying to sign veteran DH Marcell Ozuna. Per sources. With Eugenio Suarez off the market. Ozuna spent the last 6 seasons in Atlanta. And drove in 100+ runs in 2023 and 2024,” Filliponi posted through X on Sunday evening.
