Entering the MLB offseason, there was a lot of talk around the future of star infielder Ketel Marte and whether he would be back with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2026. Arizona missed the postseason last year, and the front office seemingly wanted to change things up across the roster, with Marte being one of the better trade assets on the roster.
*PREDICTION*
Marte, 32, remains one of the more pure hitters that the game has to offer, and he could be a dynamic addition for any club. Arizona seemed to cool down any trade talks about him earlier this offseason, but given that the organization could use somewhat of a reset, moving Marte also makes sense.
The veteran is under contract through the 2030 season, while also having a player option for 2031 that comes in at $11.5 million. Many teams around baseball could use this type of All-Star talent, especially for the value that comes with his contract.
The Diamondbacks have reportedly been asking for a huge trade return if they were to move Marte this offseason, and for good reason. Since the 2021 season, Marte ranks second overall among second basemen in wRC+ (133) and has slashed a combined .279/.360/.498.
The veteran is also only a year removed from finishing third in the 2024 National League MVP voting, and he has made two All-Star teams during his career. Overall, Marte could be a solid trade candidate for almost every team in the league, and it doesn’t seem like he will be slowing down anytime soon.
Ketel Marte 2025 Stats
This past season, Marte hit .283 with 28 home runs and 72 runs batted in, playing in 126 games for Arizona.

One team that could be interested in adding Marte, if the Diamondbacks change their decision about moving him, is the Philadelphia Phillies. Philadelphia is coming off a terribly frustrating year that saw them be bounced out in the wild-card round of the playoffs, and now the front office has been looking for ways to improve the roster.
To this point in the offseason, the Phillies haven’t done a whole lot, and some believe that they have fallen behind in the National League East. But if this team could acquire Marte, it could change the entire narrative of the offseason.
Placing him into a lineup with stars Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, Trea Turner, and others could give this team a boost. Marte tends to hit toward the top of the lineup, and he could help set things up for the other power hitters on the team.
The Phillies were heavy in their pursuit of free agent infielder Bo Bichette before he signed with the New York Mets, so this could be option No. 2 for them. Marte could take over in the infield, giving this roster potentially the jolt that they’ve been waiting for.
Philadelphia has never been shy about taking aggressive approaches to roster building, and a move to land Marte could keep that idea going strong. All in all, the Phillies do make a lot of sense for Marte, and he would then have a real chance to chase a World Series title starting right away.
