The New York Yankees have had an unusually quiet offseason this winter. They have not made too many headlining moves, putting their focus on retaining Cody Bellinger. The two sides agreed on a five-year, $162.5 million contract.Â
Outside of that, the club brought in Ryan Weathers in a trade with the Miami Marlins, re-signed Paul Blackburn, and Trent Grisham will return after he accepted his qualifying offer.Â
While they brought in some pitchers, it may make sense to sign another. Neither Gerrit Cole nor Carlos Rodon will be ready for Opening Day, as the two will still be rehabbing from their respective surgeries.Â

Yankees urged to come to terms with former All-Star pitcher to help bolster rotation
You can never have too many pitchers in baseball, especially given the rise in arm injuries we have seen over the years with increased velocity. The Yankees do have options for a starting rotation, even with Cole and Rodon out, but if another goes down, they could be in trouble.Â
The Bronx bombers will not want to overuse their bullpen early, and there are some pitchers still on the open market that would not cost them much. Bleacher Report’s Tim Kelly believes former All-Star Lucas Giolito could be a good fit for the Yankees.Â
“In between those two instances of elbow issues, the former All-Star revived his career, going 10-4 with a 3.41 ERA across 145 innings. Adding that type of arm to Aaron Boone’s rotation would be big in what is almost certainly baseball’s toughest division.”
Giolito is certainly not the same pitcher he was with the Chicago White Sox, but he has been effective when healthy lately. It would not be a move that would be league-altering, but it would give the Yankees some more breathing room when it comes to their starting rotation to begin the season.
