The New York Yankees pop up once again in MLB news with a roster transaction. On Thursday, the Yankees X account announced that New York has claimed former Athletics and Pirates pitcher Osvaldo Bido, and designated infielder Braden Shewmake for assignment. Bido had been with the Angels organization, but he never pitched for Los Angeles. It’s been an offseason all over the place for Bido.

The Angels DFA Osvaldo Bido a week ago after acquiring Jayvien Sandbridge from the Yankees. Shewmake ends up being the odd man out on the Yankees’ 40-man roster to make room for Bido. The Yanks have had a funny offseason in terms of these small roster moves.

Yankees Slew Of Transaction Moves Are.. Confusing?

According to Brendan Kuty,

“Since the start of the year, the Yankees have claimed Kaleb Ort, RHP; Marco Luciano, OF; Michael Siani, CF; Dom Hamel, RHP; Yanquiel Fernandez, RF; and Osvaldo Bido, RHP

They have also DFA-ed Ort, Luciano, Jayvien Sandridge, LHP; Siani; Hamel; and Braden Shewmake, INF”

These are all organizational moves by New York it seems. It’s just funny because the season hasn’t even started. In fact, spring training hasn’t even started, so what are the parameters the front office is operating under, because it’s a bit confusing? The DFA limbo is a real thing in MLB. Some of these players, like Bido, have MLB experience.

Bido pitched to a 5.87 ERA in 2025 over 79.2 innings over 10 starts. Over 28 career starts and 38 total appearances, Bido holds a career 5.07 earned run average with 179 strikeouts in 193.2 innings. He also had 82 walks in those innings.

And for Braden Shewmake, he was a former first-round pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2019, and spent some of his 2025 with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. In 279 at-bats in Triple-A last season, Shewmake hit .244 with four home runs.

Yankees Remaining Offseason Outlook

Many Yankees fans, analysts, and reporters are all starting to wonder the same thing at this point: when will New York sign a player that will directly impact their 2026 team?

New York still needs a right-handed bat as they await the decision of Paul Goldschmidt. The Yankees had just been linked to Miguel Andujar, but the Padres swooped in to sign him.

At this moment, the current free agent options are dwindling, especially as spring training approaches.

As other AL teams remain active, it’s important that the Yankees at least attempt to keep up. It’s apparent that they are very comfortable with their core players, and rightfully so, but the lineup features too many lefties as currently constructed.
