OTTAWA (KAIT) – A Red Wolf great will howl on a international stage.
Liam Hicks was selected to the Canada 30-man roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. He hit .247 in his rookie season for the Miami Marlins with 6 home runs and 45 RBI. Hicks hit .304 with runners in scoring position. The Arkansas State alum showed his versatility in the lineup as a catcher, first baseman, and designated hitter.
Hicks was selected by Miami in the 2024 MLB Rule 5 Draft. He got on the MLB radar after a breakout campaign in the 2023 Arizona Fall League. Hicks led the league with a .449 batting average, was 3rd with 31 hits and a 1.075 OPS.
The Canadian was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 9th round of the 2021 MLB Draft. He’s top 10 in Arkansas State history with a career .340 batting average.
Canada is in Pool A with Puerto Rico, Colombia, Cuba, and Panama. The top two teams in each pool advance to the quarterfinals. The WBC begins March 6th.
