Emmanuel Clase threw ‘suspect pitches’ in 48 games

  • February 6, 2026

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The attorney for Luis Ortiz filed a court claim Thursday, accusing Emmanuel Clase of throwing “suspect pitches” in 48 games over 26 months.

The amount is significantly higher than earlier reported.

Federal prosecutors originally said Clase had exhibited suspicious activity in 9 games from 2023-25.

Ortiz is accused of rigged pitches in 2 games.

Christos Georgalis is the attorney for Ortiz, a former teammate of Clase, and wants the two cases separated because, he says, Clase’s transgressions are much worse.

Trial is set for May 4, although Georgalis has asked for more time to prepare.

Both pitchers are on paid leave, and Guardians manager Stephen Vogt has said the team is proceeding as if neither pitcher will be available this season.
