Teams across Major League Baseball are starting to prepare for spring training, which means inviting players in their organization to join the team for spring camp. There have already been a few MLB teams to announce their non-roster invites, and how many additional players they will be bringing. For the Yankees, 27 additional players will join the team at Steinbrenner Field. Yankees top prospect George Lombard Jr. will be one of the spring training participants.
Yankees’ X account announced the players, and only a couple have big-league experience, including Jonathan Ornelas, Seth Brown, Zack Short, and Paul DeJong. DeJong and Seth Brown have been the most successful at the MLB-level, so they may have more of a target on their backs to perform and make the Opening Day roster.

Yankees Non-Roster Invite Breakdown
A non-roster invite to spring training is exactly what it sounds like. New York’s front office will use this spring training period to grade various players, which is why this list comprises of either young prospects or veteran players with MLB experience to see if they can still be an asset to the team.
So, in addition to the 40 players on the Yankees roster, there will be a total of 67 players in Yankees camp this spring.

What Stands Out Among This Group?
Perhaps the most intriguing storyline out of the Yankees camp will be the infielders group, and in particular, George Lombard Jr., who is New York’s top prospect.
Marco Luciano has also gone through the DFA limbo this entire offseason, and he is a player to watch for as he fights for a spot in the organization.
Seth Brown has 74 career home runs, and Paul DeJong has 146 homers in nine MLB seasons. Both have struggled at the big league level over the past few seasons, which is why they are in this “NRI” position.
Other top prospects like Spencer Jones and Elmer Rodriguez are already on the 40-man roster, so they’ll be in spring camp as well. However, neither Jones or Rodriguez’s roster spot is guaranteed, so they will have to perform during the exhibition portion of spring training.
