The Arizona Diamondbacks have been making some interesting moves this offseason. While Ketel Marte was a hot commodity for a time, they’ve kept him, and also traded for Nolan Arenado.
With a crowded infield, especially with Carlos Santana in the fold, the roster spot of Blaze Alexander wasn’t necessary. To make use of his value, the Diamondbacks, according to Jon Heyman of The New York Post, are trading him to the Baltimore Orioles.
Heyman shared one of the players the Diamondbacks are getting back, but two other prospects are coming to Arizona. Overall, it’s a 3-for-1 trade, and the Diamondbacks are landing a few very interesting players.
D-Backs swing 3-1 trade using Blaze Alexander with Orioles
“Blaze Alexander traded to Orioles from D-Backs for Kade Strowd,” Heyman reported. But two others are coming to Azirona in this deal.
According to Francys Romero of Beisbolfr.com, the Diamondbacks are also acquiring prospects Wellington Aracena and Jose Mejia.
For starters, Strowd is a very fun pickup for the Diamondbacks. The 28-year-old right-handed reliever is coming off a very strong rookie year for the Orioles.
In 29 games in 2025, he had a 1.71 ERA with five holds, 24 strikeouts, a 1.10 WHIP, .178 batting average against, 13 walks, and 16 hits and one homer allowed in 26.1 innings pitched.
While he’s a bit older, the righty reliever is coming off a strong debut in the Majors and is someone worth taking a flier on. But he’s not the only interesting player coming back in this trade.

Wellington Aracena is a right-handed pitcher who is 21 years old and was a top-30 prospect for the Orioles by MLB Pipeline last season.
In his professional career so far, Aracena has a 4.17 ERA, which includes a 2.25 ERA in 23 games (14 starts, 92 innings pitched) last season in Single-A and High-A.
Mejia is a 20-year-old infield prospect who has a .292 batting average and an .829 OPS in 305 at-bats in three seasons in the minor leagues.
Aracena and Mejia are two interesting prospects, while Strowd is someone who can factor into the bullpen in 2026. But adding all three in this Alexander trade is a very solid job from the Diamondbacks front office.
