KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Bobby Witt Jr. will no longer be the only Kansas City Royal playing for the Stars & Stripes during the World Baseball Classic.
On Thursday, Royals starting pitcher Michael Wacha was announced as another committed member of Team USA.
“Wacha’s locked in,” the Royals shared in a post announcing the news.
The 34-year-old native of Iowa City, Iowa, becomes the third Royals pitcher — and eighth Royals player — to sign up to compete in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
Last year, Wacha had a 10-13 record and 3.86 record in 31 starts with Kansas City. Wacha signed a three-year extension with Kansas City following the 2024 season.
KCTV’s Marleah Campbell and Gabe Swartz discuss Travis Kelce’s Man of the Year nomination, Super Bowl thoughts and Big 12 hoops musings.
Wacha and Witt Jr. will represent Team USA, which begins the World Baseball Classic in Pool B. They’ll play pool play in Houston, Texas, from March 6-11.
