History

February 6, 2026 – Emporia State baseball picked up their third shutout win in six games to begin the season, taking down Missouri-St. Louis 10-0 on Friday at the Edmond First Pitch Classic behind a shutdown performance by Colby Deaver on the mound.

HOW IT HAPPENED
For the third straight game, Emporia State scored in the first inning as an RBI groundout by Brady Unrein put the Hornets ahead 1-0. Both teams were held scoreless in the second before the Hornets increased their lead to 3-0 in the third on an RBI triple by Brady Unrein and a sacrifice fly from Dylan Brisbois.

The lead remained at 3-0 through the fourth inning, as a quality start was well under way for Colby Deaver, who allowed just one hit and struck out four in his first four innings.

Emporia State’s big inning came in the fifth as they added five to their total, with four coming with two outs. The inning included a two-run triple by Logan Myers and an Evan Abbott double down the left field line as the Hornets ended the frame with an 8-0 lead.

Deaver continued his outing in the bottom half and quickly dispatched the Tritons in order while adding a pair of strikeouts to his total.

The final two runs on the board for Emporia State came in the sixth with Sammy Padilla picking up an RBI in the inning.

Colby Deaver continued dealing, as he retired the Tritons in order again in the sixth and then erased a leadoff triple in the seventh with a popup and two more strikeouts to seal the 10-0 win in seven innings.

A LOOK AT THE STATS
Seven different Hornets recorded a hit, with Evan Abbott tallying two of his own for his fourth multi-hit game of the season. Abbott was one of five players with an RBI while Logan Myers and Brady Unrein each had two of their own.

On the mound, Colby Deaver handled things himself with a seven shutout innings, pushing his scoreless start to the season to 12.0. Deaver also tallied eight strikeouts for the second time in two starts.
