The New York Yankees are once again trying to claw their way back to the top of the MLB after they have failed to win their 28th ring for the 16th straight season.
With a roster headlined by now three-time AL MVP Aaron Judge, the Yankees should’ve easily won another World Series title in the last 10 years while he’s been in the majors. However, the Yankees have failed to do so.
The Yankees will always be a consistent threat and favorite due to their history; however, they need to start taking their roster construction more seriously. We’ve seen what the Los Angeles Dodgers have been able to build, and the Yankees would have no problems doing the same.
One of the biggest names that remains a “what if” is second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. After completing his first full year in the famous pinstripes last season, his future in the Bronx now seems uncertain. Meaning a trade could be a realistic possibility before he hits free agency.

Why The Texas Rangers Will Trade For Jazz Chisholm Jr.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. made his MLB debut in 2020 with the Miami Marlins. The Nassau, Bahamas native immediately took the league by storm with his swagger and style of play. In his four full years in Miami, Chisholm became an All-Star and even earned a spot on the cover of MLB The Show.
Chisholm was dealt to the Yankees at the 2024 trade deadline in exchange for Agustin Ramirez, Jared Serna, and Abrahan Ramirez. This past season, Agustin established himself as the future for the Marlins at the catcher position.
The Texas Rangers find themselves in an interesting position heading into the 2026 MLB season, and a trade for Jazz might be enough to push them into a serious wild-card contender.
Jazz Chisholm Stats
In 2025, Chisholm Jr. hit for an average of .242. He hit 31 home runs, drove in 80 RBIs, and also stole 31 bases.
Across six seasons in the majors, Chisholm has a career slash line of .248/.316/.454 with a .770 OPS. He has hit 108 homers, driven in 308 runs, and stolen 130 bases.

Why The Rangers Should Make This Trade
The Texas Rangers traded second baseman Marcus Semien to the New York Mets in exchange for outfielder Brandon Nimmo and cash considerations. This trade addressed two crucial needs for both teams.
The Mets addressed their need for a second base upgrade over Jeff McNeil, and the Rangers addressed their need for an outfielder. After that trade, the current projected starter at second for the Rangers is Josh Smith.
Smith hit 251 last season with 10 home runs and 35 RBIs in 144 games. Projected to back him up is platoon man Ezequiel Duran. While Smith wouldn’t be a terrible option to roll out on opening day, a proven 30/30 caliber player like Jazz Chisholm Jr. would be a perfect pairing in the middle infield next to veteran shortstop Corey Seager.
Their outfield is solidified with Nimmo being paired with Wyatt Langford and Evan Carter. This is a solid trio for the Rangers, and the rest of the lineup is headlined by Josh Jung and Jake Burger.
With this lineup and the trade for MacKenzie Gore from the Washington Nationals, the Rangers have solidified themselves as a legitimate contender in a wide-open AL West.
The Seattle Mariners should be the clear favorites and should easily win the division; however, the Rangers could easily find themselves in play for a wild-card spot with a high-powered offense and an elite starting rotation consisting of Gore, Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi, and Jack Leiter.
By adding Jazz Chisholm to the lineup, they would address a clear hole in their lineup and add an offensive weapon that the Rangers could desperately use to give themselves a better chance of competing with the Mariners for the division title.
Why The Yankees Should Make This Trade
Jazz Chisholm Jr. is set to become a free agent after the 2026 season. With only a $10.2 million pricetag to his name, Chisholm should be set for a hefty pay increase once he hits the open market.
If the New York Yankees fail to win the World Series and Jazz leaves in free agency, it would be a failed move. Chisholm has already been a hot topic in the rumor mill, so the Yankees should strike while the iron is hot, and Chisholm’s trade value could be at the highest point it’s ever reached.
The Yankees have already established the thought that Chisholm is expendable, and teams will be desperate to land a 30/30 player who can play multiple positions in the infield and the outfield as well.
While Jazz Chisholm Jr. is a key piece to this Yankees’ offense and their quest for a championship, it may be wise to send Chisholm elsewhere.
