Paul Goldschmidt is staying in the Bronx.
The New York Yankees signed the first baseman to a one-year contract on Friday, keeping him in pinstripes for a second straight season, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
Goldschmidt, 38, delivered a steady performance in his first campaign in New York, hitting .274 with 10 home runs and a .731 OPS across 146 games.
The former Most Valuable Player and seven-time All-Star, brings an extensive résumé that includes a .288 career batting average, an .882 OPS, 372 home runs and more than 1,200 RBI over 15 major league seasons with the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cardinals, and Yankees. His accolades also feature four Gold Gloves and five Silver Slugger Awards, and he has been selected to represent Team USA in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.
The Yankees’ offseason additions have been limited, but the club has retained key offensive pieces, including outfielder Cody Bellinger.
