Christian Walker

The Houston Astros are still in the midst of trying to navigate through a pivotal offseason as they needed to reset as a team after they ended up missing the playoffs.

It is clear that for a team like the Astros, missing the playoffs is not the standard for them, so they must be active throughout the rest of free agency for them to get back on track.

*Prediction*

One player the Astros have been trying to move for quite some time has been Christian Walker, and now seems like the best time to move on from him.

As teams look to fill out their rosters right ahead of the season, Walker can provide serviceable first base play for a team still searching for help there. One team that has a need there that can look to trade for Walker is the San Diego Padres.

Houston Astros Trade Christian Walker to the San Diego Padres

The San Diego Padres are going to need to find a first baseman still as Luis Arraez signed with the San Francisco Giants in free agency. While the Padres have Jake Cronenworth there currently, they should look to slide him over to second base instead to get better production out of the entire lineup.

For them to fix their first base spot and get better production for the future, they can look to trade for Christian Walker.

Walker just signed a three-year, $60 million contract with the Astros, but he fell short of expectations. Not living up to expectations will be another driving factor in the Astros looking to move on from Walker.

While it wasn’t a great year, Walker is coming off a season in which he produced a .238/.297/.421 slash line with 27 home runs and 88 runs batted in. The potential has been shown before with Walker, as over his career, he has a slash line of .248/.325/.456 with 174 home runs and 351 runs batted in.

Walker can provide the defense that can help San Diego further solidify themselves as contenders. He is a three-time Gold Glove winner in consecutive seasons from 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Between his offensive upside, and defense, Christian Walker can be the ideal player the Padres look to trade for.
