Alfredo Duno is one of the top prospects in baseball and one of the very best catching prospects in the game. The Venezuelan-born Duno is coming off of a season in which he won the Florida State League’s Most Valuable Player award where he led the league in nearly every offensive category outside of triples and steals, and batting average where he finished second.

As things get closer to spring training the baseball activities are ramping up for guys. And Duno is getting some help from one of the best catchers in Major League Baseball and one of the best players to ever come out of Venezuela as 9-time All-Star Salvador Perez has been spending some of his time working with young catchers.

Perez has been a big leaguer since 2011 when he was just 21-years-old. His entire career has been spent with the Kansas City Royals. While he’s occasionally spent time as a designated hitter and at first base, he’s led the league in games caught three times and has been behind the plate in 1383 games in his career.

Spring Training gets started today

Pitchers, catchers, and position players who will be playing in the World Baseball Classic are all scheduled to arrive in Goodyear, Arizona on Monday for the start of spring training.

Here’s the list of players who should be reporting to spring training today who are minor leaguers among the 40-man roster:

Julian Aguiar – RHPJose Franco – RHPRhett Lowder – RHPZach Maxwell – RHPLuis Mey – RHPChase Petty – RHPEdwin Arroyo – SS (WBC with Puerto Rico)

Here’s the list of players who should be reporting to spring training today as non-roster invitees or as WBC players:

Tejay Antone – RHPWill Banfield – CConnor Burns – CHagen Danner – RHPP.J. Higgins – CIvan Johnson – Utility (WBC with Great Britain)David Lorduy – RHP (WBC with Colombia)Yunior Marte – RHPDarren McCaughan – RHPRyjeteri Merite – RHP (WBC with the Netherlands)Anthony Misiewicz – LHPLyon Richardson – RHPCarson Spiers – RHPMichael Trautwein – CJoel Valdez – LHPAlexander Vargas – INF (WBC with Cuba)

One could also mention Chase Burns and Rhett Lowder here. If everyone is healthy at the end of the spring then one of those guys is going to not have a spot in the rotation and it seems less than likely that whoever that is winds up in the bullpen early in the season as they would provide an outstanding 6th option if and when the team would need someone to join the rotation. That likely means that one of those two will wind up in the rotation for Louisville if everyone remains healthy.
