HALE COUNTY, Texas — Five people are dead following a shooting incident in the Seth Ward neighborhood early Saturday morning, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The Texas Rangers were called to assist the Hale County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation after the shooting occurred around 3:40 a.m. in the 2700 block of Upchurch.
Four adults were pronounced dead at the scene: 28-year-old Hector Alonso Sanchez, 30-year-old Tanya Paola Valadez Rangel, 47-year-old Rosalba Saenz Rodriguez, and 33-year-old Saul Villa, who was also identified as the assailant. A fifth victim, 21-year-old Reily Joseph Zavala Barrientos, was pronounced dead at Covenant Hospital-Plainview.
“Plainview ISD is aware of the tragic incident that occurred in our community. Our hearts are with the family and all those affected during this very difficult time,” read a statement from the district. “The situation is currently under investigation, and we are awaiting confirmed information from law enforcement.”
“As details are verified and appropriate to share, any relevant information will be communicated through official channels. We ask our community to join us in extending compassion, respect, prayers and patience as this process unfolds.”
The Texas Rangers are continuing to investigate the incident, and authorities have stated there is no threat to the public. No further details are available at this time, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
