Pitcher Justin Verlander, a three-time Cy Young Award winner and two-time World Series champion, has just signed a one-year deal for the 2026-2027 season.

Verlander Coming Home to the Tigers

Justin Verlander was drafted by the Tigers in 2004 and spent his first 14 seasons with them before leaving in 2017 to play for the Houston Astros.

He also played for the New York Mets and, more recently, the San Francisco Giants.

Now he’s coming home to pitch for the Tigers in the 2026-2027 season.

The team and Verlander were able to come to a one-year deal worth $13 million.

Will This Be Justin Verlander’s Last Season?

While Justin Verlander is only 42 years old, he has spent almost half his life (20 seasons, this upcoming season not included) pitching in the MLB.

That’s a long time for any athlete, and my gut tells me this will be his last season playing baseball, and he wanted to come back home to the Motor City to end things where they all started.

And he might get the chance to walk away a hero if he can help bring a World Series to Detroit.

The Tigers have been playing well the past couple of seasons, and with another big-name pitcher, Tarik Skubal, on the roster, the Tigers are starting to look like a team that most wouldn’t want to face.

Tiger fans might have will have their possible chance to see Verlander on the mound during the Tigers’ home opener against the St. Louis Cardinals on Friday, April 3.
