Minnesota Twins pitchers and catchers officially report to Spring Training on February 12, though most of them are already present in Fort Myers and chomping at the bit for Grapefruit League action to begin.
If Derek Shelton’s new team is going to turn the page on the 70-92 season they just finished before he arrived, it’ll be on the coattails of their starting rotation. Beyond that, the roster is still a mess, especially in the bullpen, where they still have way more questions than answers.
Matt Canterino not an option for Minnesota Twins
The same can be said for talented young pitcher Matt Canterino, who only lasted one Spring Training inning in 2025, before going on the shelf and hasn’t pitched in a regular season professional baseball game since 2022.
This spring, the Twins hoped they’d finally get a good look at their 28-year-old right-hander out of Rice University. Unfortunately, that isn’t going to happen, after the 28-year-old righty was ruled out by GM Jeremy Zoll.

Canterino underwent shoulder surgery last April, before re-signing with the Twins, who had nothing to lose by bringing him back. Obviously, they are exercising the utmost caution with the talented oft-injured prospect.
If he can get right, Matt is one of the most talented prospects in the organization and when he’s been on the mound, Canterino has been dominant — posting a 1.48 ERA, 0.859 WHIP, 130 strikeouts and just 35 walks in 85 innings pitched between low-A and AA ball.
