ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers will give away unique promo jerseys during a May 29 game against the Kansas City Royals, one that harkens back to a memorable match from over three decades ago.

During the 1990 game, hall of fame Rangers pitcher Nolan Ryan threw a ball to Royals player Bo Jackson, who accidentally hit the ball into Ryan’s face and caused a bloody lip. The blood stained some of Ryan’s white jersey, leading to an iconic image for Rangers fans.

According to ESPN, the hit left Ryan with a 2-inch gash on his lip, requiring six stiches. He continued to play the game, striking out eight total batters.

The “bloody lip jersey,” posted on the Texas Rangers X account, recreates Ryan’s stained jersey and will be available to fans attending the game at Arlington’s Globe Life Field.
