Former Chicago Cubs star Kris Bryant will be out of action for the foreseeable future as the Colorado Rockies placed him on the 60-day injured list.
The roster move comes as the Rockies open up their spring training workouts in Scottsdale, Arizona, and it continues a trend of Bryant being out of action due to a back issue that has plagued him for years.
Bryant revealed last fall that he was dealing with degenerative disc disease in his back, and that ailment is still affecting him as spring training gets underway.
Bryant signed a seven-year deal with the Rockies prior to the 2022 season and he’s only played 170 games over four seasons, slashing .244/.324/.370 with 17 home runs and 61 RBI’s.
He only appeared in 11 games last season with Colorado, with two doubles and an RBI in 41 plate appearances.
Last year he told Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post that he was being impacted day-to-day by back pain.
“If you asked me two or three months ago, I would say [my back pain] was not affecting my everyday life. But now it is, which is really annoying to me because usually when you kind of just rest, it’s supposed to get better,” he said. “So maybe I’m at a point where I should just do a bunch of stuff to see if that helps me.”
