Kiké Hernandez played it coy when asked if he’s going to re-sign with the Dodgers in free agency
The Los Angeles Dodgers have once again been busy this offseason, as they have followed up their second-straight World Series victory by making several big moves, such as signing top free agents Kyle Tucker and Edwin Diaz. One of the team’s own free agents, Kiké Hernandez, remains a free agent, though, and with Spring Training getting underway, it remains to be seen if there’s a spot for him on the team.
While Hernandez isn’t the Dodgers’ best player, he is a fan favorite, and he is an important presence in the clubhouse who can also play a variety of different positions on the field. Hernandez remains a free agent, though, and when he was recently asked by a fan whether or not he will be re-signing with L.A., he provided a coy response.
Kiké Hernandez Issues Murky Response to Free Agency Question
Hernandez’s big personality has made him one of the more popular players in baseball, which is saying something when considering how universally hated the Dodgers are right now. Hernandez has spent the majority of his 12-year career with Los Angeles, and it seems as if it were up to him, he would remain with his longtime team.
In 2025, Hernandez filled in his usual super-utility role, suiting up in 92 games for the Dodgers while playing pretty much every spot in the field. However, his numbers at the plate weren’t particularly good, as he hit just .203 with 10 home runs and 35 RBIs. There’s no doubt that Hernandez is an important part of Los Angeles’ most recent World Series team, but is there room for him on this team?
When you have a team as loaded as the one the Dodgers have, there isn’t much room for sentimental signings. While Hernandez has value as a player, it’s clear that signing him would be a move geared towards making fans happy. For much of the offseason, though, it has seemed like Hernandez is trending towards leaving Los Angeles, and when asked about a potential reunion with his team, he offered a simple shrug before walking away (see clip above).
Should the Dodgers Re-Sign Kiké Hernandez?

Hernandez didn’t have to play every day in 2025 to be a valuable piece of the Dodgers’ roster. It’s telling that he has won three World Series championships with the team, despite spending time away from the team in 2021 and 2022. And yet, baseball is a business, and that business may result in Los Angeles having to part ways with Hernandez.
Spring Training is beginning to get underway, and it seems like there’s virtually no momentum when it comes to Hernandez returning to L.A. That could change in the blink of an eye, and chances are Hernandez is open to a reunion, but the construction of the team’s roster makes it tough to justify signing him. Anything can happen in MLB, but it seems more likely that Hernandez will land with a new team at this stage of the offseason.
