Area Prep Baseball Report for Wednesday, Feb. 11
In prep baseball action Tuesday, Northshore went to Archbishop Hannan and shut out the Hawks 4-0.
The game was scoreless into the top of the fifth inning when the Panthers scored a run. They added a second run in the sixth to make it 2-0 and scored two more runs in the seventh inning.
Jacob Neely pitched six innings scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. Neely walked two and struck out 10. Layton Fogg pitched the final scoreless inning to complete the shutout.
Derek Weilbaecher led Northshore with a double, single and an RBI while Connor Smith added two hits. Gavin Powell added an RBI.
Northshore (2-0) will play at Mandeville on Monday.
Hannan (0-1) hosts St. Thomas Aquinas this Friday.
In a very good game, Pearl River outlasted Newman 5-3 in eight innings at Avenger Field.
The Rebels scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to win it on a pair of bases loaded walks.
Tied 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning, Sammie McDaniel singled in a run before Aiden Ward drove in a run with a fielder’s choice to give the Rebels a 3-2 lead.
The Greenies tied the game when Tanner Robert plated a run when he was hit by a pitch with the based loaded, sending the game to extra innings.
Jack Falgoust had two hits for Newman while Christian Sauska and Collier Villere each drove in a run.
Sauska pitched four innings for Newman, allowing three runs (two earned) with eight strikeouts and three walks.
Xan Harwell started for Pearl River, also pitching four innings. Harwell allowed two unearned runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and four walks. Sophomore Bryce Kellum came on in relief and pitched four shutout innings to get the win while sophomore first baseman Caden Levy had two hits, including a double and a single for Pearl River.
The Rebels (1-0) will host Thomas Jefferson Saturday.
Newman (1-1) will host Kenner Discovery on Thursday at Avenger Field.
Kenner Discovery won 10-6 at East Feliciana.
The Swamp Owls scored four runs in the top of the first inning to take the early lead. East Feliciana cut the deficit to 4-1 after three innings and pulled within 5-4 after four innings.
Kenner Discovery scored two runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth inning to pull away for the win.
Junior Keith Champagne had two hits and two RBI, senior Brennan Deist had three hits and an RBI, freshman Brendan Hartley drove in a pair of runs and junior Jackson Fischtziur added a hit and two RBI to pace the Swamp Owls.
Connor Donato was the winning pitcher, going four innings, allowing three earned runs. Donato walked seven and struck out five. Senior Jack Ratcliff picked up the save.
John Godeau took the loss for East Feliciana. Kameron Wilson had two hits and an RBI while Aiden Johnson and Ke’Marion Matthews each had a hit and an RBI for the Tigers.
