SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – Spring training is officially underway for the Baltimore Orioles. The team known as “the O’s” had pitchers and catchers report at their spring training home of Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota on Wednesday.
The O’s are looking to get back on track in the A.L. East division. They were a 91 win ball club just two seasons ago, but in 2025 things went in the wrong direction.
Baltimore only won 75 games and finished in last place in their division. Most of this was due to injuries, and lots of changes during last season. This includes the midseason firing of Brandon Hyde as the team’s manager.
This year, they enter under first-year manager Craig Albernaz. He comes to the O’s from the Cleveland Guardians. He spent the previous two seasons in northeast Ohio as Cleveland’s bench coach and associate manager.
Albernaz began his coaching career in 2015 with the Tampa Bay Rays organization through their minor league system.
The O’s begin spring training when they host the New York Yankees on Friday, February 20.
