LAST TIME OUT:
Central opened the 2026 season on the road in Turlock, Calif., battling Stanislaus State in a three-game set at Warrior Baseball Field. The Wildcats were competitive at times, but couldn’t quite break through, dropping the opener 0-5 before pushing the Warriors in game two and cutting the deficit late in a 3-6 loss. Sunday proved tougher, as CWU struggled to generate offense and fell 0-9, while the series finale was canceled due to weather.
Through the opening series, CWU’s offense was limited but several Wildcats showed early consistency at the plate. Andrew Charron and Nolan Mowry led the team in average at .333, with Charron adding a double and an RBI in limited at-bats, while Kaiden Hernandez and Kellen Berg each recorded two hits and shared a .222 average. Catcher Ethan Buckley also collected two hits and drove in a run while posting a team-best .385 on-base percentage thanks to three walks.
SCOUTING THE COYOTES:
Cal State San Bernardino has had a challenging opening to the season, starting 1-6 through its first two series. The Coyotes hosted Montana State Billings to begin the year and were competitive in three close losses before breaking out offensively for a 25-9 victory in the series finale to secure their first win. They then hit the road to face Westmont, where they struggled to slow opposing lineups, falling 14-3 in the opener and dropping a pair of tight games, 9-7 and 8-7.
Eddie Alfaro has been the Coyotes’ most efficient hitter, batting .643 with nine hits in 14 at-bats, two home runs, and 10 RBI while posting a 1.214 slugging percentage. Dom Dominguez has provided the primary run production, hitting .417 with three home runs, 10 RBI, and 11 runs scored, while also drawing six walks. Jeremy Giesegh has added power and plate discipline with three homers, seven RBI, and a team-high 11 walks to go along with a .514 on-base percentage, and Ramone Valenzuela and Patrick Fregoso have chipped in seven RBI apiece.
